O Regulation (EC) No 561/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 15 March 2006 provides rules on driving times, breaks and rest periods of drivers of road haulage and passenger transport vehicles.

Professional drivers for the carriage of passengers by road are therefore required by law to comply with the provisions of this legislative act, the aim of which is to improve working conditions and road safety.
